I'm not mad at anyone here, but I'll explain my position in that thread since I wont be posting over there...
Weber quoted J. Satinover, M.D., his work is used by organization like Exodus and NARTH to promote gay 'cures' as well as by anti-gay organizations who claim that homosexuality is a choice, and there for there are no 'rights' that can be associated with it.
The idea that gay's can be 'cured' not only is rejected by most professional mental health organization around the world, but is also terribly hurtful to those young people who are struggling with a society that isn't supportive as it is. That was the subject of the thread originally. I totally, absolutely reject people who are out to label gays as having something mentally wrong. As far as I'm concerned it's just a thinly disguised way of peddling their hate. I'm goddamn tired of listening to the hate-mongers peddle their crap without being called out on it.
I don't think Weber's initial post was as innocent as he likes to portray AT ALL. In the course of just a few posts he went from stating an opinion on a thread that he KNEW would bring comments to suddenly being the poor persecuted Christian. He stated he was leaving when the comments got more negative to some of his stated positions - especially the one's he didn't have a canned answer for, then he hopped right back into the middle again. Nowhere did I tell him he couldn't point, I merely pointed out what he had posted himself previously about leaving. Yet that gets warped into poor Weber being unfairly attacked in a thread that he didn't like to begin with and to which he offered nothing other than the statement that that he didn't support National Coming Out Day. Feeling the need to note that it's obviously a 'pro-gay' community yet he has no negative feeling towards anyone just doesn't ring true, especially when he then immediately reminded everyone he's exercising his free right of speech - it just rings hollow. He knew exactly what he was doing when he posted.
As the thread goes along he does a skillful job of making it seem that he is being attacked even well before anyone ever did. He answers a question by copy and pasting from something that many gay's consider to be hate literature. He manages to take my post calling him on that and twist it around that he's being unfairly called a hater and he isn't attacking gays by what he posts, then manages to add the part about being a persecuted Christian.
I'm a Christian, I'm nothing like him, at all.
As some one said, he went from someone stating an opinion to becoming a religious troll, hoping to gain enough people blasting him so that he can feel comfortable and smug playing the poor Christian martyr. I've seen the type before and I have no respect for that. When I said "He's not worth arguing with, his opinion has been duly noted for what it's worth. We should move on.", that's exactly what I meant. As a troll he would continue posting over and over because it allows him to post what he see's as the truth fighting against the evil hordes of unbelievers.
Of course this is followed by comments from some that poor Weber is suffering from character assasination and that I'm showing zero respect to Weber or his beliefs. (I don't care what Weber's beliefs are until he feels the need to hijack a thread to share them). This is then followed by Weber reappearing to profess total innocence.
I don't buy it.
